Spirituality
What is spirituality?
“Spirituality may refer to almost any kind of activity through which a person seeks meaning, especially a "search for the sacred." It may also refer to personal growth, blissful experience, or an encounter with one's own ‘inner dimension’."
Spirituality at St. John's
At St. John's, we nurture and celebrate each person within our school family; individuals are respected and valued equally without regard to ability, gender, faith, heritage or race.
Spirituality is how we will 'grow the soul'. It should be woven like a thread through our school enriching who we are.
By creating meaningful moments, we aim to transform thoughts, actions and heighten awareness. Through providing an exciting, engaging and thought-provoking curriculum, we encourage children to explore, ask questions, reflect and grow as unique individuals.
Our shared definition of spirituality
Spirituality is not something we can see; it is something we feel inside ourselves.
It is about those memorable moments of wonder and reflection that encourage us to question and understand relationships: the connection we have with ourselves and others, our beliefs, and the world and beyond.
Spirituality enables us to flourish, to live life in all its fullness, and grow our soul.
We are currently working together with the children to ensure that they too have a shared understanding of what spirituality means, and therefore what it means to them.
