School Houses

We are very proud of our House system. All children are allocated to a House when they join the School.

The House names were chosen by the school council and are named after people that the children admire, a courageous advocate who has spoken out and made a difference, something we aspire for all of our children to achieve.

Each house has its own colour and name:

Parks - Yellow

Parks are named after Rosa Parks, a key figure in the American Civil Rights movement. She famously refused to give up her bus seat to a white man. This act of defiance was symbolic for the movement and as a result, she became an international icon of resistance. She was honoured by US congress as 'The First Lady of Civil Rights'.

Rashford - Red

Rashford are named after Marcus Rashford, the Manchester United and England footballer. Rashford has been praised for using his platform as a famous footballer to become a political activist, campaigning against racism, homelessness and child poverty, being awarded an MBE in October 2020. He suffered hardship as a child and has used this as an inspiration for this philanthropic work.

Watson - Green

Watson are named after Emma Watson, the actress famous for playing Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film franchise. In 2014, she was appointed a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador and helped launch the campaign HeForShe, which advocates for gender equality. She has since promoted education for girls in countries such as Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

Attenborough - Blue

Attenborough are named after Sir David Attenborough, best known for writing and presenting documentary series for the BBC. Whilst his earlier work focused on the natural world, more recently he has advocated for restoring planetary diversity, limiting population growth, renewable energy and climate change.

Children earn house points (Dojo Points) which contribute towards personal awards, such as certificates and badges. Collectively, these points are collated weekly for each house and the house with the most points celebrate.

Children wear their House colours as part of their PE kit and compete for their Houses at events such as Sports Day.

Each House has a House Captain, a child from either Year 5 or Year 6. House Captains are democratically voted for by the children in their House after a short presentation by each child wishing to be chosen. The roles are then awarded during a special leadership worship held at St. John's Church, with parents invited.

Children sit in their Houses at lunchtime, with the eldest supporting the youngest and developing our sense of community.

To further develop a sense of belonging, we are looking at ways in which we can expand the work we do in Houses.
