School council
Our school council is made up of two children from each year group, alongside the Head Boy and Head Girl who help to lead it.
Children are voted for democratically by the peers in each class after making a presentation about why they would be a good candidate. Once chosen, the children proudly wear their badges and take part in monthly meetings with the Headteacher, where they discuss successes and areas for school development.
In the last year, the school council have repurposed an un-loved space in the school and turned it into a beautiful library, and they have been instrumental in changing the class names from authors (Bond, Potter, Butterworth and Dahl) to areas of local interest (Shearwater, Longleat, Battlesbury and Imber), with the idea being that all children will visit these four local landmarks during their journey through St. John's and learn more about their local community as a result.
All children throughout the school have the opportunity to join the school council to ensure that a diverse range of pupil voice is heard. Children are elected in September and are presented with their roles in a Leadership worship held at St. John's Church, with parents/carers invited.
